Tips to Prevent Spit-Up During Feedings
|

|
Is your baby spitting up milk during or after feedings? It’s pretty common. Even the equivalent of just a couple tablespoons of milk, when mixed with saliva, can look like quite a lot. Most of your baby’s meal is in her stomach, so try not to worry that she isn’t getting enough.
If your baby has the spit-up habit, try to minimize the amount of air she swallows while eating:
-
Avoid feeding her while she’s crying (although if feeding quickly ends the crying, it’s OK).
-
Keep her upright on your shoulder after meals; gently pat her back to help bring up air.
-
Try burping her midway through a meal, rather than waiting for 1 big burp at the end.
-
If you’re using a bottle with formula or breast milk, tilt the bottle so the liquid fills the nipple and does not leave any air pockets.
