4 Pre-Op Exercises for Faster Post-Op Recovery

The stronger your muscles are before surgery, the faster and easier you’ll recover after surgery.
Do 10 reps of each exercise below at least twice a day.

Exercise #1 – Ankle pumps
|
| |
|
• Lying flat on your back, point and flex your feet (bending your ankles down and up).
|
| |
|
• Lie on your back with one leg straight and the other bent at the knee.
• Tighten the quadriceps muscles (at the front of your thigh) in your straight leg while pushing the back of that leg's knee downward.
• Alternate between legs.

Exercise #3 – Straight leg raises
|
| |
|
• Lying on your back, bend one leg at the knee and straighten the other.
• Lock the knee of your straightened leg and lift that leg 6 or 7 inches.
• Hold for 5 seconds and slowly lower down.
• Alternate between legs.

Exercise #4 – Chair push ups
|
| |
|
• Sit on a chair with arm rests and no wheels.
• Place your hands on the arm rests and push your body up.
• Keeping your arms straight, hold for 5 seconds and then slowly lower yourself back to sitting.
