4 Pre-Op Exercises for Faster Post-Op Recovery

The stronger your muscles are before surgery, the faster and easier you’ll recover after surgery.

Do 10 reps of each exercise below at least twice a day.

Exercise #1 – Ankle pumps

•  Lying flat on your back, point and flex your feet (bending your ankles down and up).

Exercise #2 – Quad sets

•  Lie on your back with one leg straight and the other bent at the knee.

•  Tighten the quadriceps muscles (at the front of your thigh) in your straight leg while pushing the back of that leg's knee downward.

•  Alternate between legs.

Exercise #3 – Straight leg raises

•  Lying on your back, bend one leg at the knee and straighten the other.

•  Lock the knee of your straightened leg and lift that leg 6 or 7 inches.

•  Hold for 5 seconds and slowly lower down.

•  Alternate between legs.

Exercise #4 – Chair push ups

•  Sit on a chair with arm rests and no wheels.

•  Place your hands on the arm rests and push your body up.

•  Keeping your arms straight, hold for 5 seconds and then slowly lower yourself back to sitting.
