Puzzles for Toddlers

Puzzles are fun for toddlers, but you may find yourself wondering what type is best for younger children.

Try finding puzzles with 3-6 pieces; some even have knobs on the pieces to make it easier for the child to move the pieces in and out of the openings. This kind of puzzle is different from the interlocking style puzzle an older child or adult will use.

Generally, the pieces are shapes, colors or animals—the perfect things to talk about with your toddler. You might find some examples in your local library.

Remember that every child is different. If your toddler doesn’t yet show an interest in puzzles, that’s OK, too.
