A: You will be able to take a shower (and shampoo your hair) by the third or fourth day after surgery. You need to be able to stand and be steady on your feet. Your nurse will tell you if you need to have a plastic drape over your incision.
You may not put your incision or incisional area into and under water (such as in bathtubs, pools, hot tubes, lakes, etc.) until your doctor says this is OK. This is a great question to ask about at your follow-up appointments.
