Total Joint Replacement FAQs

Common Questions Orthopedic Surgeons Hear from Joint Patients

Q:  How long should I use the compression stockings (TEDS)?

A:  Try to wear these during the day for the first few weeks (typically 6 weeks) after surgery to help reduce swelling, prevent blood clots and improve circulation. You may wear them longer if you find that your ankles swell without them. Your discharge instructions, when you leave the hospital, will tell you how long your surgeon wants you to wear them.
