Total Joint Replacement FAQs

Common Questions Orthopedic Surgeons Hear from Joint Patients

Q:  When will my stitches be removed?

A:  Many surgeons use stitches that dissolve and do not need to be removed. Your surgeon and nurse will instruct you about this. If your surgeon has used non-absorbable sutures or staples, they are usually removed by a visiting nurse, at your surgeon’s office or by your primary care physician, 10–14 days after surgery.
