Total Joint Replacement FAQs

Common Questions Orthopedic Surgeons Hear from Joint Patients

Q:  What can I do to make my incision scar less noticeable?

A:  Gently massage the skin around your incision several times a day. This will keep the skin loose and supple.

When your incision is well-healed (about 4–6 weeks after your surgery) and there are no scabs on the incision, you may begin to gently apply a lotion with aloe to the incision.

Be sure to protect your incision from intense sunlight for the first 3 months after surgery.
